If included, it would count as one of the rare Venice preemed North American premiere debuts and uncommon 35mm treats at the fest. After doubling up at the Venice Film Festival with the Luigi de Laurentiis” award for a Debut Film and the Best Director Horizons award, The Childhood of a Leader‘s Brady Corbet recently picked up another Best Director award at the Lisbon & Estoril Film Fest. A regular figure at the festival as an actor in both short and features from Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin era up until Antonio Campos’ Simon Killer, Corbet also had his short debut (2009’s Protect You + Me.) and writing credits on Mona Fastvold’s The Sleepwalker (2014) and last year’s short Rabbit from Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre all premiere at the festival. The available acquisitions title has had its share of extremely convinced supporters and even the detractors acknowledge the genius in Corbet’s debut oeuvre.

Looking, Season 2, Episode 10: “Looking for Home”
Directed by Andrew Haigh
Written by Andrew Haigh & John Hoffman
Airs Sundays at 10 Pm on HBO
All relationships involve compromises. No one is 100 percent compatible with his or her partner, and so there must be some give and take when building a life together. Typically, the big discussions – about having children, what city to live in, and, yes, whether to be completely monogamous – occur before a couple moves in together, but not so with Looking’s Patrick and Kevin. By this time, the show’s season (and probable series) finale, these two have accelerated the pace of their relationship for different reasons. Kevin needs an excuse to break up with John, and he would never have done so if there were the possibility of him being alone. Patrick wants to prove to himself (also his friends, family, and maybe most importantly, Richie) that...

Directed by Andrew Haigh
Written by Jhoni Marchinko
Airs Sundays at 10 Pm on HBO
At this point, how are Patrick Murray’s friends not completely fed up with him? After he drunkenly insults everyone in his life at his own terrible party, he tags along to Doris’s father’s funeral in Modesto and makes the weekend all about him. He mawkishly sobs at the service, continually tries to one up Doris in the “I had an unhappy childhood” department, and ends up totaling Dom’s car and sending all three of them to the hospital. Doris, bless her heart, is nothing but kind and patient in response to Patrick’s appalling behavior. Dom mostly ignores him, instead focusing his energy on trying be there for Doris while dealing with his ambivalence towards Modesto and his own father. Patrick goes through the...

Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 10 by Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly. The pundits and critics have come to a consensus on the most likely nominees out of the numerous television shows on the air: a showdown between Breaking Bad and True Detective in Best Drama Series, Modern Family accruing a number of nominations at the cost of other comedy series. But what about the long shots? These performers and series would make deserving nominees, but for various reasons, are not expected to hear their names called. Here are five dream nominations in each of the major Comedy categories.
(Note: I only considered a nominee a long shot if it was actually submitted to that category. For example, I could not select Bob’s Burgers as Best Comedy Series, since it was submitted in the Animation categories instead. I also considered nominees only in the category they were submitted; for example,...

Updated for 2014, the best of cosplay has 15 new cosplay photos and 15 from last year that haven't been topped.
There have been many versions of Supergirl, but the one constant is youth and optimism. Unlike her cousin Superman who grows up with his super abilities, Kara Zor-El does not get her abilities until she's on earth. So she remembers what it's like to just be an ordinary person. She's often drawn with a huge grin. If I suddenly had superpowers, I'm sure I would too.
If you've got good cosplay or think I missed something, send it our way.

Slowking (Pokémon) Cosplayer: Jessica Nigri * Photographer: Adam Patrick Murray ........................................................................ Houndoom (Pokémon) Cosplayer: Jessica Nigri * Photographer: Adam Patrick Murray Pokémon scored an immediate hit when it debuted on American TV in 1995: Adapted from a Gameboy game created by Satoshi Sajiri, the diminutive "pocket monsters" spawned a multibillion dollar franchise on both sides of the Pacific. The initial mania died down after a few years, but the games and the animated series and features have remained popular. Although it's unabashedly product-based and overly cute at times, Pokémon remains an agreeable children's entertainment that stresses friendship, perseverance, and good sportsmanship. The first broadcast season introduces the main characters and follows them through first part of the game in its original Red and Blue versions. Aspiring Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum must establish a bond with Pikachu, the ultra-cute, but initially recalcitrant "electric mouse." He leaves his home in Pallet Town and quickly befriends...

There is nothing more important to a teenager than everything. It’s the sly trick when making a high school movie: the stakes are already built in. That’s why you can (theoretically) sustain a film like Prom based solely on the emotional toll of rejection. It’s as emotionally devastating as any bomb Bane could unleash on Gotham. Then the next week comes and with it a new problem to worry about endlessly. It’s a harrowing roller coaster regardless of what’s actually going on in your life.
That’s part of what makes The Perks of Being A Wallflower such a monumental work. Not only are the usual tropes of surviving adolescence involved, but they are merely a base for a number of adult issues that are thrust upon our teenage heroes. This is no doubt aided by the auteurship of Stephen Chbosky, a man who earns...

Fit to Burst directed by Sean Tiffin is a 6 minute short about a man who’s having trouble urinating while at a fancy dinner. A fellow diner ridicules him until he “bursts”. It’s a funny punch-line short that should have played with the comedies. The chief pleasure of Fit To Burst is in watching the main character. The actor never overplays the role, opting for a low-key approach that makes the one scene where he boils over all the more effective. A lot of heart goes into the performance. Very well cast with an interesting use of sound. The Traveler directed by Richard Taylor is a 7 minute short about a selfish,...

A Bridgestone ad that airs Sunday was based on the real, humiliating experiences of a creative at the Richards Group.
It's a nightmare faux pas we all worry about, and that some of us have committed: The private, sensitive, or frankly offensive email that you send after inadvertently clicking "reply all."
Ads, like art, sometimes imitate life. Such is the case with one of Sunday's Super Bowl ads that will inspire watercooler post-mortems on Monday, a Bridgestone spot called "Reply All."
The prehistory for this ad stretches back four years ago, to when Bridgestone first started doing Super Bowl ads with The Richards Group, a Dallas-based agency.
"It's a big, big honor--the biggest stage in the world," says Bill Cochran, a Richards Group creative, of the Super Bowl. "The way my agency does it, because it's such a big stage, is it lets everyone in the building work on it.
