Steady: “We’d prefer that the parties came to agreement for stability’s sake.”
Speculation that Nine Entertainment could be heading into receivership has left the country’s most influential media buyers unruffled.
Nine boss David Gyngell was reported to have said today that conflict between the hedge funds that control the network could send Nine into receivership, unless lenders find a way to shrink Nine’s debt mountain.
A story in the Herald Sun suggested that the networks major talent, such as Today presenter Karl Stefanovic and Big Brother host Sonia Kruger, would face pay cuts as a result.
But media buyers were unmoved by the news.
John Steedman, chairman of GroupM, Australia’s largest media buying group, said: “The big question for media buyers is, can the parties involved agree on a deal to keep Nine going as it stands? But in any case, we don’t see...

Nine’s Big Brother is facing accusations of rigging after the network accidentally aired a promo revealing the departure of contestant George several hours before voting was supposed to have ended.
The network claims that it had three different promos ready to allow for the eviction of each contestant who faced the public vote, and that George’s was broadcast early “in error”. The network claims that it was a coincidence that it happened to be the correct one that was broadcast.
The network made the eviction as part of its live show which aired in eastern states from 6.30pm on Sunday night.
But at 4.15pm, the Big Brother Facebook page posted a message urging viewers to continue to vote because the promotion was incorrect.

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. The Olympics delivered ratings bonanzas to Australia’s Nine Network and pay TV platform Foxtel although it was a loss-making exercise for Nine and Foxtel reported there was “a tick up” in signing new subscribers. But the halo effect of the Games helped ensure strong launches Monday night for Nine’s Big Brother and Australian crime series Underbelly: Badness. Nine picked up Big Brother after it was cancelled by Network Ten in 2008 after eight seasons and installed a new host in Sonia Kruger. The premiere episode aired at 7 Pm and drew an average of 2.25 million viewers nationally, followed at 8.30 Pm by Underbelly: Badness, which averaged 2.37 million. Nine’s live broadcast of the Olympics Closing Ceremony (6Am-9Am Australian Eastern Standard Time) averaged 1.48 million viewers. Nine and Foxtel jointly paid $A120 million ($126 million) for the rights to the 2010 and 2012 Games. Jeff Browne,...

Two ad agency executives feature in the new series of Big Brother, which debuted on Nine last night.

“We did seriously think about Stacey wearing a different Frost-branded t-shirt every day, but thought better of using the show for shameless self-promotion,” Shelley said. “We also discussed that conversations in the Big Brother house about work are probably best kept to a minimum.”
