As the singing reality show, ‘Indian Idol 13’ reaches its finale, contestants Debosmita Roy and Shivam Singh celebrated 110 years of feature films in India which started with the silent movie ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913. They performed the iconic song ‘Main Ban Ki Chidiya Banke’ from the 1936 classic film ‘Achhut Kannya’ featuring Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani.
‘Achhut Kannya’ was a story that highlighted an important issue of untouchability practiced in the country at that time and it was among the initial successful films of that era. It was directed by Bavarian filmmaker Franz Osten and is considered to be a reformist project. Later, in 1953, director Amiya Chakrabarty made the film ‘Patita’ starring Dev Anand and Usha Kiran on the same theme and it was followed by Bimal Roy’s ‘Sujata’ featuring Nutan which was released in 1959.
Their performance grabbed the eyeballs of the judges as well as celebrity guests including choreographer Geeta Kapur...

In what seems to be unique move of sorts, Saiyami Kher, who made her Bollywood debut with Mirzya, is all set to make a Marathi debut this year. She has been signed as the leading lady for the next production of Riteish Deshmukh, Mauli which also features him as an actor. Mauli, produced under his banner Mumbai Film Company, is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. It’s a matter of great pride for Saiyami, as with Mauli, she will carrying forward the Marathi legacy of her grandmother and veteran actress Usha Kiran. The film is expected to release in early 2019.

It's final. After months of intensive search and rigorous churning Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has finally found his Sahibaan for his love tale Mirza Sahibaan. She is none other than Saiyami Kher, niece of the very talented actress Tanvi Azmi and grand-daughter of yesteryears' leading lady Usha Kiron. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra makes it very clear that Saiyami was not chosen for her illustrious acting lineage. Says Rakeysh, "We've selected Saiyami for her ability to project the delicacy, strength, turmoil, and resolve of the character. Just like Harshvardhan, it didn't matter where Saiyami came from. She had to prove herself capable of carrying off the character." Rakeysh confesses the decision wasn't easy. "We searched for our Sahibaan for months. We finally shortlisted three girls, all strong possibilities as being the final choice. We put all three under rigorous training. That Saiyami finally got the role was a matter of just a slight edge.
