Para o ambiente das eleições do novo papa, são abordados tópicos sociais quentes: Aqueles que também dizem respeito às condições nos círculos mais altos da Igreja Católica, como a manipulação de poder, conservadorismo versus progressividade na perceção do multiculturalismo, e desigualdade de género. Também migração e terrorismo islâmico ocorrendo nas ruas fora da sala de votação. Novamente deslumbrantemente interpretado por Ralph Fiennes, que está sobrecarregado com a responsabilidade de obter o resultado mais correto nas eleições. Uma narrativa de suspense dinâmica com intrigas e revelações dos esqueletos no armário dos candidatos a papa, com uma música tão cortante como em A Oeste Nada de Novo (mesma colaboração do diretor / compositor). E ao mesmo tempo, uma reflexão inteligente sobre a transformação das normas sociais, que com a sua literalidade talvez muito evidente, clama por prêmios de festivais. O filme Dois Papas, que também apresenta o processo eleitoral do papa e ao mesmo tempo é um diálogo inteligente entre personalidades reais, foi mais modesto e sincero. San Sebastian Film Festival: Film Number 6. A movie that will most be appreciated by lovers of Vatican procedures and protocol, or lovers of any procedures at all. I probably fall into the second category, but the peculiarities and ceremoniousness associated with electing the pope naturally interested me. In addition, the film is shot so captivatingly, suspensefully with gripping and suspenseful music, that you feel like you're watching an exciting crime thriller with a simple plot – which of the candidates is the most corrupt, is the main hero really as pure and just as he seems, and who will end up laughing as the new pope. I am glad that Ralph Fiennes took on the main role, a mostly positive one, a character torn by doubts and pursuing a single goal: for everything to be fair. The other roles filled by Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini cannot disappoint. A thrilling film, even if it might seem at first glance a ridiculous way to describe a film like this.
