Schimanski is a detective I’d heard about since I was a kid—there were all kinds of stories about him, but I always brushed him off as just another 80s cop. Big mistake. In a time when modern crime shows are all about flashy effects, color filters, and actors trying too hard to look tough, Schimanski comes in, shoves all that aside, and washes it down with a beer (or something stronger). He’s a booze-loving, no-nonsense commissioner, and after seeing what he went through in the first episode I watched, I get it. I didn’t expect a 1985 crime show to be this gritty, raw, and downright gripping. Hats off to them. And that ending? Completely floored me. ()
