Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" is the best-selling crime novel of all time, with 100 million copies sold worldwide, and now for the first time the book was adapted into a television series. It's 1939 and Europe teeters on the brink of war. Ten strangers with dubious pasts are invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast in southern England. Cut off from the mainland, with their hosts mysteriously absent, they are each accused of a terrible crime, and when members of the party start to mysteriously die, they all realize they may be harboring a murderer among their number. Who will survive? And who is the killer? (HBO Europe)

anglais And then they say only God can judge. The Dover island climate providing alibis for gardeners, BBC-made set design perfectionism, rising paranoia among well-acted culprits, and a horror-like atmosphere, as if Mary Shelley had stepped into Agatha. Knowing who's behind the annihilation of the ten-member undergrown unit, which was once a group of small Native Americans and before that children of darker skin, is no burden. By the way, it's interesting how the change in the rhyme under the influence of political correctness also became a spoiler. "Believe in God...but maybe we should also lock the doors." ()

anglais Agatha Christie couldn’t have gotten a better adaptation of her famous mystery novel. The people from BBC have obviously shot this with an incredible effort not to offend and of the author’s diehard fans and it was an A+ success. The simple story is complemented by the individual characters’ flashbacks, which should tell us about their previous actions and they have adapted them so well that there can’t really be any talk of filler shots. Now add an amazing atmosphere of one of the islands that tries to pass off as a part of the Hebrides and a solid amount of proper British actors. The results simply can’t be disappointing. ()

anglais Another thoughtful, top-notch affair from the excellent Agatha Christie, who has nothing to be ashamed of in this adaptation. The central theme, which is compelling in its own right and leaves you eagerly awaiting the denouement, is supported by excellent music, a believable cast and a great deal of suspense. After the first warm-up episode, the series is already going full steam ahead until the finale, and there is no shortage of amusing murders, atmospheric paranoia among the characters and a final twist. A polished three-part miniseries that oozes filmmaking quality ()

anglais To begin with, I have to say that next to "Murder on the Orient Express", this is undoubtedly the best mystery from Agatha Christie's pen, and it won me over completely. For three hours, we have the opportunity to watch an absolutely breathtaking spectacle that benefits mainly from a wonderfully selected cast and a very well-written story. One lonely island, one large mansion and ten people who have committed crimes in the past for which they have not been punished + one quite frightening rhyme predict the individual deaths of everyone present. I liked the incorporation of flashbacks into the plot, so we get the opportunity to learn more about each character and their crimes as the story progressed, and could form an opinion about each. Alongside this, I also have to praise the camera work, which offered both symbolic details and eerily beautiful shots of the estate on the island, alongside an equally impressive and unmistakable soundtrack that perfectly complemented the stuffy atmosphere and the impossibility of escaping the island. In short, a very well made television project that combines several of my favourite elements and aspects that I look for in films or TV shows, and which was definitely my cup of tea. And that it was damn good and quality tea! ()

anglais Disproportionately better originals, because as the original is excellently built and invented, it is horribly written. Which, this adaptation, thanks to Sarah Phelps, completely corrects. If we add to that the captivating English gloomy "Gothic" atmosphere and apt cast, this one is very likely to be the best adaptation of one of the most famous detective novels ever. ()
