An adaptation of Dostoyevsky's novel, set in modern Helsinki. Slaughterhouse worker Rahikainen murders a man, and is forced to live with the consequences of his actions. (texte officiel du distributeur)

Aki Kaurismäki's feature debut is not as distinct as his later work, but hints of his further direction are already clearly evident here and the film’s quality is at least comparable. If I also consider that Markku Toikka portrayed the titular role of the tormented murderer convincingly and the music fit perfectly, then I have basically nothing to criticize about the film.
