Evan Baxter ist der Sprung vom kleinen Nachrichtensprecher eines lokalen Senders in New York zum Kongressabgeordneten in Washington gelungen. Dass er von Gott persönlich dazu angehalten wird, einer Sintflut vorzubeugen und als moderner Noah eine Arche zu bauen, passt nicht ganz in seine Pläne. Doch als unvermittelt sein Bart zu wachsen beginnt und auch andere Vorzeichen eintreten, erkennt Evan, dass er nicht seinem Land, sondern der ganzen Menschheit dienen muss. (VOX)

Zweieinhalb Sterne. Im Hinblick auf die Qualität habe ich bei Evan Allmächtig und seinem Vorgänger keinen großen Unterschied bemerkt. Zwei Figuren gingen mir schrecklich auf die Nerven – die afroamerikanische Beraterin des Abgeordneten, die "witzig“ fast alle Sätze der anderen Figuren kommentiert hat, und ihr dummer junger Kollege, den Jonah Hill darstellt (ein schrecklicher Tölpel). Ansonsten bin ich der Meinung, dass dieser Film vor allem entspannend und ziemlich harmlos ist. Sie müssen sich aber darauf einstellen, dass es sich um einen US-amerikanischen Familienfilm handelt, in dem es (leider) moralische Belehrungen, Weisheiten über Grundwerte usw. gibt. Steve Carell hat mich nicht enttäuscht (wer würde sich nicht über die selbstzerstörerische Montage am Anfang der Bauarbeiten amüsieren?), Morgan Freeman ist ein Gott. So wie John Debney.

Bruce Almighty was about how a loser becomes God. Evan Almighty is about how a rich congressman becomes a bearded Noah. I suppose the joke likes in the “transformation" with typical funny scenes (Evan hitting his finger with a hammer, Evan bothered by a dog, Evan stalked by birds, Evan can’t shave off his beard etc.) and a very bad Steve Carell is certainly no excuse for dumb jokes like this. I gave two stars are probably just for the nice shots of the Ark, a couple of wisecracks from Morgan Freeman, for Lauren Graham and the silver Hummer. Never again.

The biggest disaster of the week. At least according to what I’ve seen. Jim Carrey is a brilliant comedian, while Steve Carell showed that comedy can be a struggle for him. For half of the film, he’s just yelling and can’t believe what’s happening; in the other half, he’s convincing people that he’s actually the new Noah. Evan Almighty makes an appeal toward politicians, to our behavior towards nature, basically to everything we do wrong. It makes fun of it, but it’s not a funny film; it lectures on serious topics, but you still won’t buy it when the birds are crapping all around. The digital animals are nothing great, just like the other effects. The film lacks humor and is missing a lot to be educational. No, this is just bad. A comedy that died because someone didn’t read the script after writing it.

I'm quite disappointed with the failed plot and Steve Carell absolutely couldn't handle the role. I've been giving movies starring Carell a wide berth since I saw this would-be comedy. 2 stars by the skin of its teeth.
