An older, reclusive man, Avery, has a best friend in his dog Red. When three teens kill Red for no reason. Avery sets out for justice and redemption, attempting to follow the letter of the law. This TV-like version of Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino is a conventionally made film with an unsurprising screenplay that is kept afloat by a great Brian Cox, and the ending is made more poignant by a surprisingly powerful dramatic twist.
