A very endearing comedic parable with a beautifully low-key Peter Sellers, whose Reverend Smallwood is a sort of precursor to Chance the Gardener from Being There. The film is too long, but that's the only thing I can fault it for. It’s clear from the beginning that the plot has little to do with reality, where many things would be solved and resolved differently, so I didn't even mind the final jump to somewhere completely different, because it actually belonged there and definitely made sense.
