Biography
After studying architecture in Milan, Luigi Comencini, born in Salò in 1916, starts his career in film as a critic for the magazine L'Avanti!, then for the weekly Il Tempo. In 1947, he founds with Alberto Lattuada, the Cineteca Italiana in Milan and then starts directing documentaries such as La novoletta (1937) and Bambini in città (1946). In 1953, he meets an enormous success with Pane, amore e fantasia. From fiction to documentary, from comedy to drama, he always focussed on human feelings and civic engagement. Luigi Comencini dies in Rome on April 6, 2007.
