It's Baltimore, 1962, and a rebellious teenager with the biggest bouffant on the block attempts to win the coveted "Miss Auto Show" crown as she fights against racial discrimination in this film created and directed by John Waters and featuring Divine in his/her last role. (Park Circus)

I recently saw the remake, but John Waters showed me that I don't need to fear his films. I thought he would be a bit crazy, and he is, but he shows that he is a very capable director who can successfully handle comedy - musical comedy, at that - in a truly unforgettable way. Plus, he chose great actors with which to do it. Divine doesn't click with me, but in this case, he/she isn't as annoying as usual. ()
