When Sergeant Michael Dunne (Paul Gross) is wounded in battle during World War I, he is sent home to Calgary, Alberta. While recovering from his injuries, he becomes enamored with Sarah Mann (Caroline Dhavernas), a beautiful young nurse. Sarah's brother, David, desperately wants to follow in Michael's heroic footsteps in order to impress his girlfriend's father, but he is not able to enlist because of his asthma. When strings are pulled and David is allowed to join the ranks, Michael finds himself fighting for the safety of the young man, for the heart of his true love, and for his own survival. English The beginning and end are solid, but the middle? About 90 minutes of nothing. It lacks any real sense of war or tension, just a bland romance subplot with zero creativity or originality. Is it just me, or does Canada have a habit of taking interesting ideas and turning them into complete disasters? ()
