The Aristocrats

Even though the humor from the book was lost in the first movie and I found it quite boring and disappointing, I gave the sequel a chance when Deniska appeared on the scene, played by Simona Lewandovska. But there's still no sign of Milada and the dogs, and they opted to leave Deniska's father out completely. Unfortunately, this movie doesn't work for me, many scenes come out completely awkward and senseless. It almost hurts my heart to see great Czech actors all looking clumsy and I have to label them all with the word AWKWARD again. The ending picks up a bit with Tomáš Jeřábek and the song "Sweet Temptation", but overall it's still only worth two stars, albeit slightly better than the hopeless first movie. (2024-04-27)

The Last Aristocrat 2 impressed me in much the same way as the five-years-older first film: it's a fun comedy, in which I was again more entertained by the trio of sidekicks than the main trio, and the newcomer Simona Lewandowska also had a certain humorous charm – perhaps elementary, but functional nonetheless. I really liked the wedding line – whether it was the preparation of the vows or Mrs Ticha's touching story about Helena. (2024-01-31)
