Biography
Born in Nagoya, Aichi, in 1932, he graduated from Tokyo University in 1955. With an extensive filmography of experimental and documentary short films, including For My Crushed Right Eye (1968), he directed in 1969 the experimental fiction Funeral Parade of Roses, which would become his most well-known film. He has published numerous books of photography and served as president of the Japan Society of Image Arts and Sciences.
