I like to hold a hard cover book... I just do, and I like vinyl records too. There is an air of well-crafted permanence about them and you know that if they are well taken care of then they will last a life time. Call me old-fashioned but it's just a cosy feeling I get. Having said that, this 1995 pressing of "The Guinness Book Of Who's Who In Jazz" is PAPERBACK. Still a valuable reference even though it's out of date. 20 years have passed since this pressing and so too have a number of the musicians who are still listed here as alive. Okay, that's only a minor point and quite understandable but what irks me are the omissions. I mean, Kenny G and the unfortunately named Dick Hyman get a mention but there is no listing for Nina Simone or Ina Ray Hutton, etc... So yeah, it's good to have around if you want to look up a quickie bio along with some album suggestions. ..and there is nothing to complain about when you can buy a good used copy for a penny. Very small print so you'll need yo' specs..

This was bought for my dad who absolutely loves it. Although out of print and second hand it was in fantastic condition and a bargain.

This is an excellent resource for finding out where artists come from and some background information about their roots and what influences have informed their style
