🚨 Zero Emissions may seem distant, but it’s an urgent necessity for us all 🚨 #Concrete, the second most used substance on Earth after water, is a major source of carbon emissions - almost 8% globally, most of which comes from #cement, the key active ingredient in concrete. Clinker, the critical ingredient in cement, generates 65% of all emissions produced by the construction sector – so it’s a big problem. To achieve zero emissions, we must rapidly #decarbonise concrete - and its key ingredient, cement, a significant emissions contributor. The good news? #Technology already exists that can reduce cement production emissions by up to 70% which equates to cutting 1.6 billion tonnes of CO2 as early as 2035. The #CleanIndustrialRevolution is here - we need industry and policy support to scale it quickly. Learn more about our existing solutions to #decarbonise cement, here: https://lnkd.in/e-b3-9vY #ZeroEmissionsDay #FutureOfCement #Construction #SustainableConstruction #NetZero

#Concrete is the most consumed man-made material in the world. The United States alone is estimated to have consumed 120 million metric tons in 2023. Our Founder and Managing Director, Donal O’Riain, shares a harsh truth about the binding agent that makes concrete: #cement. He states that “if the cement industry were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of carbon dioxide on the planet, after the U.S. and China.” Responsible for almost 8% of global carbon emissions, cement production is recognised as one of the most polluting industries in the world. Development and construction are not going to stop, so accelerating the adoption of #LowCarbon cement solutions can make a radical difference to concrete’s carbon footprint today. Technology exists that can deliver a 70% reduction in emissions from cement. And since cement is responsible for 90% of concrete’s carbon footprint, that’s a saving worth having. Let's work together to build better 💪🌎 Read more about Donal’s take on the low-carbon cement revolution: https://bit.ly/3YKbnkG #AdvancingNetZero #Sustainability #Innovation | Jeroen Langenberg

“The problem [in Europe] is not that we lack smart people or good ideas, but there are too many barriers to scale up and commercialise innovation,” said Draghi. He said Europe must become a place “where innovation flourishes” and where decarbonisation is “a source of growth”. [Sustainable Views] A refreshing take on #decarbonisation as an opportunity, but a mixed bag for the cement and concrete sector, from Mario Draghi in his report 'The future of European competitiveness' delivered to European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen this week: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://lnkd.in/ehCNzKk8 Draghi made some concrete recommendations, such as: • The introduction of building codes to strengthen green demand in the construction sector • The application of low-carbon criteria and minimum environmental sustainability requirements for public procurement • Increased funding for #CleanTech Policymakers must respond faster and more effectively to implement policies that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth and EU member states must collaborate better to maximise the impact of modern, cost-effective and sustainable solutions to advance #NetZero. Look out for our blog coming soon as we unpack the recommendations of this report and the impact it could have on the future of #SustainableConstruction in Europe. #DraghiReport #EU2040 #CleanIndustrialDeal #Fitfor55 #BuildingTheTransition #WGBW24

We enjoyed hosting Pascal Canfin as part of the Assises européennes de la transition énergétique at our plant in Dunkirk, France 🏗 An appointment has been made to continue the enthusiastic exchange around supporting the wide deployment of our ACT #technology, that will make it possible to #decarbonise the cement industry by 50% by 2030.

The latest report from McKinsey & Company examines the reality of the trajectory of the #EnergyTransition in the United States and Europe. ➡ It leaves us with one clear thought – legislators, governments and corporations urgently need to accelerate the deployment of cost-effective, efficient and scalable #decarbonisation technologies to reach #NetZero goals. A wide range of technologies that will be crucial for us, such as nuclear power, carbon capture, wind and energy storage, require construction. So, it makes sense to do this in the most carbon-effective way possible. At Ecocem, our #LowCarbon cement technology ACT, can reduce carbon emissions from cement by up to 70% without a ‘green premium’. The technology is ready, and cost is no longer a barrier – regulatory bodies need to make way for viable alternative solutions that are available now, in the cement sector. #FutureOfCement #Innovation #Technology #Sustainability #AdvancingNetZero
Nine years after the Paris Agreement, we're at a critical moment for the climate. There's a big gap between energy goals and real progress, which could slow down the shift away from fossil fuels.
