The experiment was conducted in the agricultural year 2016/2017 on five sowing times in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, in a randomized block design with four repetitions. In each plot, ten random plants were marked weekly during the vegetative phase to determine the number of leaves (NL) in the main stem, and three of these for the determination of leaf area (LA). A total of 70 leaves of different sizes were used to calibrate the model. Another 106 leaves were used to test the predictive capacity of the equations by various statistical indices. The objective of this study was to develop a climate risk zoning for damage to gladiolus due to l... more The objective of this study was to develop a climate risk zoning for damage to gladiolus due to low and high temperature under climate change scenarios projected by the end of the century in the Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The PhenoGlad model was used in this study to determine the recommended periods for planting gladiolus throughout the year across the Rio Grande do Sul State. The model was run for daily planting dates (from 01 January to 31 December), for different gladiolus developmental cycles (Early, Intermediate I, Intermediate II and Late). The climate change scenarios were from CMIP5: RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, representing optimistic, intermediate and pessimistic scenarios of greenhouse gases emission, respectively. Planting dates were considered recommended when crop damage, due to high or low temperatures, occurred in less than 10% of the years. Warmer regions like Uruguaiana and Iraí have the shortest recommended time for planting throughout the year in the three c...
Gladiolus is an important cut flower in national and international markets. The floral stem, a ki... more Gladiolus is an important cut flower in national and international markets. The floral stem, a kind of spike, is composed of florets that have acropetal opening. Knowledge on the opening speed of florets, represented by the anthochron, can assist in planning harvesting and marketing activities. The objectives of this study were to estimate the base temperature for floret opening in gladiolus and to determine the anthochron, with the time unit represented by the thermal time. Two field experiments were conducted in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, for two years (2011-2013), each experiment composed of 12 planting dates and three cultivars. The daily thermal time (STd) was calculated as the difference between the daily mean temperature and the base temperature (Tb) and the accumulated thermal time was obtained by the sum of STd. Resumo: Ate pouco tempo a pitaya ( Hylocereus undatus Haw) era uma frutifera pouco conhecida, por... more Resumo: Ate pouco tempo a pitaya ( Hylocereus undatus Haw) era uma frutifera pouco conhecida, porem, tem apresentado destaque no nicho de frutas exoticas, frequentemente disponivel nas gondolas dos supermercados brasileiros. E uma planta perene que pode ser propagada atraves de estacas e o uso de enraizadores e indicado para o melhor desenvolvimento do sistema radicular e, consequentemente, para a obtencao de mudas de qualidade. Assim, pesquisas acerca da producao de mudas dessa frutifera sao fundamentais, a fim de viabilizar a sua implantacao em pequenas propriedades rurais, visto que atualmente as mudas sao comercializadas por altos precos, o que torna onerosa a implantacao da cultura em media e larga escala. O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido na região da Quarta Colônia, município de Silveira Martins (... more O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido na região da Quarta Colônia, município de Silveira Martins (RS). O objetivo foi fazer um inventário quali-quantitativo das espécies arbóreas, arbustivas e de palmeiras utilizadas na arborização urbana do município. Para isso, foram contabilizados a frequência de ocorrência das espécies, sua origem, estado geral das plantas, aspecto da copa, condição fitossanitária, além da observação da ocorrência de danos à fiação e às calçadas. Foram encontrados 1.126 indivíduos, distribuídos em 75 espécies, sendo as famílias predominantes Bignoniaceae e Fabaceae, e Handroanthus heptaphyllus (Vell.) Mattos a espécie arbórea mais frequente. Quanto aos danos ao patrimônio público, observou-se que 96% dos indivíduos que compõem a arborização urbana não causaram prejuízos às calçadas e à fiação aérea. Concluiu-se que a arborização de Silveira Martins (RS) se caracteriza por apresentar a maioria de indivíduos nativos do Brasil (58%), destacando-se as espécies Handro...
The objective of this work was to develop a climate risk zoning for the gladiolus ( Gladiolus x g... more The objective of this work was to develop a climate risk zoning for the gladiolus ( Gladiolus x grandiflorus ) crop in the 497 municipalities of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The PhenoGlad model was used to simulate crop development and the occurrence of damages. The model was run for four developmental cycles of gladiolus over 34 years and in 23 locations in the state. The probabilities of 10, 20, and 30% damages due to low and high temperatures were used to define periods suitable for planting. Rio Grande do Sul is adequate for growing gladiolus during most of the year. In the coldest areas of the state, the inadequate planting dates are from March until mid-May due to frost damage. In the hottest regions, the inadequate planting dates are greater from October to January due to heat damage. Because it is stricter, the 10% level of damage is considered more appropriate to define the periods recommended for planting.
