KPMG and Deloitte Boost Salaries to Attract Top Accounting Talent in Singapore Big news for accounting professionals in Singapore! Deloitte and KPMG are rolling out substantial salary increases to attract and retain high-quality talent. Here’s what you need to know: Key Highlights: Deloitte's Pay Raise: Starting September 1, graduates joining as first-year audit associates under Deloitte’s accelerated audit career program will see starting salaries jump by up to 20%, hitting $4,500 a month. Other first-year audit hires will start at $4,100. KPMG's $30 Million Commitment: From October, KPMG is boosting salaries across its audit, tax, and enterprise risk services teams. This is part of a larger $100 million investment in salary adjustments, technological advancements, and talent development over the next five years. Professional Development: KPMG will allocate $25 million for employee training in critical skills like AI, data literacy, analytics, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance). Deloitte is set to invest $62 million in similar areas, including generative AI and sustainability assurance training. Industry Alignment: EY and RSM are also updating their policies to align with recommendations from the Accountancy Workforce Review Committee’s recent report, which emphasizes salary increases and skill development to rejuvenate the sector. In Budget 2024, Singapore announced that it will implement the Income Inclusion Rules and a domestic minimum top-up tax from financial years starting on or after 1 January 2025. IRAS has recently published GloBE Rules and Domestic Top-up Tax rules. The document covers all concepts in a good summary format with examples especially how MNE Groups will be affected when Singapore will implement IIR and DTT. MNCs should start assessing the financial and operational impact of Pillar Two rules on their businesses. This will help to develop appropriate response strategies. https://lnkd.in/g6DbJwXX)

The Singapore Government announced new guidelines requiring employers to have formal processes for employees to request flexible work arrangements (FWA) from 1 Dec 2024 onwards. This development signals Singapore’s acknowledgement that FWAs is the new norm in the post COVID world. Many companies are understandably concerned that allowing FWAs for employees will lead to a loss of productivity, given increased friction for collaboration arising from the varied work hours/location of employees. However, MNCs already have processes to manage employees working across different locations/time zones due to their global presence. These processes could easily be adapted to cater to FWAs in Singapore. If Singaporean companies aspire to be world class MNCs, adopting such processes is not a matter of if, but rather when. Furthermore, companies risk losing in the war for talent if they do not give employees the option to have FWAs. This has been shown in a 2022 Randstad survey, which indicated that 2 in 5 workers in Singapore would not accept a job if they are unable to work remotely or have flexible hours. Rather than focus on the perceived loss of productivity, companies should rather focus on ensuring that: 1. Formalized HR processes are in place to meaningfully address employee requests for FWAs 2. Employee assessments are focused on their measurable outcomes, as opposed to the number of hours put in to deliver the outcome 3. Managers are trained to regularly and effectively engage employees in a way that fosters trust while getting updates on work progress

The Ministry of Finance Malaysia reports a decline in consumption-based tax revenue following the switch from GST to SST. From April 2015 to May 2018, GST collected RM184.8 billion, while SST from September 2018 to 2023 totaled RM150.4 billion The ministry highlighted that the average annual SST collection was 51.6% lower than GST due to its smaller scope—covering only 41% of goods and services compared to GST's 76%. The ministry also noted that factors like global commodity prices and foreign exchange rates impact pricing, and SST isn't the main cause for the continuous rise in prices.
