TikTok: Tips and tricks

It’s fun to get lost in a stream of interesting content, but it’s even better to avoid getting lost in an app. Whether you’re a new user or a seasoned scroller, these tips and tricks can help you make the most of TikTok.

TikTok’s ever-growing content library provides endless entertainment, but it can also be challenging to keep track of topics. You can find helpful context in the comment section from related searches. Just tap the comment icon on any post and look for blue comments. Tap one to discover search results with related videos so you get the full story.

Did you catch a video that matches your vibe, or want to make sure your friends see that adorable post of your favorite animal? Simply tap the share button and then “Repost” to share the video. This publishes it to your followers' For You Page (FYP) with a badge that indicates you reposted it. You can also view your previous reposts by tapping your profile tab and then the reposts icon.

If you want to remove an accidental repost, just tap your reposted badge in the bottom-left corner of the video and then the “Remove repost” button.

Have you ever accidentally refreshed the For You Page while mid-video, or just wanted to show someone a TikTok you’ve seen recently? You can easily go back to posts you’ve come across by going into your watch history. Tap your profile tab and then the menu icon in the upper-right corner.

Tap “Settings and privacy” and then “Activity center.” After tapping “Watch history,” you can now revisit TikToks you’ve seen, with the most recent at the top. Videos are grouped by the date you saw them -- the farther you scroll down, the longer it’s been since you’ve seen those posts.

You and your TikTok regulars can now wear your friendship as a badge of honor with Streaks. Send messages to each other for at least three consecutive days to get a Streak going. A flame icon in your Inbox will tell you how many days in a row you’ve been messaging on each thread. You can even make it a challenge – the longer you can keep it going, the longer your Streak gets.
