TikTok: Tips and tricks

It's fun to get lost in a stream of interesting content, but it's even better to avoid getting lost in an app. Whether you're a new user or a seasoned scroller, these tips and tricks can help you make the most of TikTok.

TikTok's ever-growing content library provides endless entertainment, but it can also be challenging to keep track of topics.

Did you know? You can find helpful context in the comments section from related searches. Just tap the comment icon on any post and look for blue comments. Tap one of these to discover search results with related videos and get the full story.

Have you seen a video that matches your vibe? Or do you want to make sure that your friends see that adorable post of your favourite animal? Simply tap the Share button followed by 'Repost' to share the video with your followers. This publishes it to their own For you page, along with a badge letting them know that you reposted it. You can also view your previous reposts by tapping your Profile tab, followed by the reposts icon.

If you want to remove an accidental repost, just tap your reposted badge in the bottom-left corner of the video, followed by the 'Remove repost' button

Have you ever refreshed the For you page accidentally while mid-video? Or have you ever just wanted to show someone a TikTok that you've seen recently? You can easily go back to posts that you've previously come across by going into your watch history. Tap your profile tab and then the menu icon in the upper-right corner.

Tap 'Settings and privacy', followed by 'Activity centre'. Once you tap 'Watch history', you will be able to revisit TikToks that you've already seen, with the most recent at the top. The further you scroll down, the longer it's been since you've seen those posts. Videos are grouped by the date that you saw them.

You and your TikTok regulars can now wear your friendship as a badge of honour with Streaks. Send messages to each other for at least three consecutive days to get a Streak going. A flame icon in your inbox will tell you how many days in a row you've been messaging on each thread. You can even make it a challenge – the longer you can keep it going, the longer your Streak gets.
