About this app

The most powerful safety app for today’s world. Download Citizen to feel safer at home or out, get real-time safety alerts and live video of incidents happening near you, updates on natural disasters or protests, and know if your loved ones are near a dangerous incident.

Citizen notifications have urged people to evacuate burning buildings, deterred school buses from nearby terrorist attacks and have even led to a rescue of a 1-year-old from a stolen car. Citizen may notify you of a crime in progress before the police have responded. It's meant to protect you and your community — please use it responsibly.

NEW! See friends on your Safety Map: Know their safety status in a glance and find out if (and when) they are near a dangerous incident in real-time. You can turn on Ghost Mode to keep your location private at any time.

Real-time Safety Alerts: Location-based notifications help you avoid potentially dangerous situations.

Live Breaking Video: Watch live video of an incident unfold from different angles or broadcast live from the scene.

Keep Your Community Safe: Report incidents right when they happen to protect the people around you.

Citizen also offers the Protect subscription, to help protect you and your loved ones. You can read the Terms of Use here: https://citizen.com/privacy/protect-supplemental-tos

This app used to be a great way to keep yourself safe and informed of what was happening around you. Now they force you to pay for premium if you want ANYTHING aside from the ability to see a recent happening (24hr ago or less). Once you click on the notification from your phone's pull down menu to view a recent entry, I hope you never want to go back to that specific alert again for any reason because you won't be able to. It RARELY actually shows up on the map for you to click on to revisit.

App has become practically useless due to them heavily restricting nearly all functions behind a paywall. Not to mention that it tries to push irrelevant information from cities across the country when it's supposed to be a local app, and when it does show local incidents, it's either very old, outdated or behind, or simply doesn't get shown or posted. Such a shame. This app used to be amazing and reliable.

They made the app worse then charged for it?? Used to be helpful and free but now it's completely useless and expensive. I can't see recent alerts for my area anymore. The only option is to see the "most viewed" incidents, most of which are 6+ mos old. Why would I care about that? No way I'd pay for this app. Devs, try harder. $20/mo? You're out of your minds.
