About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

Been using this app for a few years now. We would have moments of messages not going through or not giving notifications. It's been getting worse over time. Often times you have to open the app to get notified, which defeats the purpose of notifications. But it's also intermittent. I can get notified of a message and 5 minutes later, app opened, and get nothing. Looked at the fixes, nothing helped. Some were ridiculous. Decided it's too much effort to continue. Time to look for a replacement.

I love the options for privacy and customization. My only issue so far is with messages sometimes taking minutes to hours to deliver. I live in a remote area, so the phone signal is spotty, but using Wi-Fi doesn't seem to improve things. I haven't found a setting to ask the app to prioritize Wi-Fi, and don't know if it has one, but that would be a handy option for those of us in rural areas.

Great connecting app. Working well for what I need. We use this as the primary messaging app for church. It works great for forming and managing groups. You can easily make new groups, have someone leave the group, change several people if you want. Theie safety privacy concerns are great, but it does make backups a little bit more complicated. I just changed phones recently & I will say that the process of moving over to a new phone has gotten easier. M conversations moved over with me
