Elite Dangerous: Odyssey finally showcases First-Person Shooting

Space has gotten a whole lot more dangerous

Frontier Developments finally is ready to show and talk about the first-person combat feature of Odyssey. The upcoming major expansion for Elite Dangerous is slated to come out in early 2021 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Check out the dev diary video here!

British studio Frontier Developments has been talking a lot about Odyssey. It’s much more than just new content for Elite Dangerous after all. The base game already offers millions of planets to visit. So, there really is no need for more of the same after all.

Instead, Odyssey follows the footsteps of the space sim’s first expansion Horizons. The main allure of that was the ability to land on planets and engage in planetary exploration. While a great new feature, the problem always was that there wasn’t really much to do on planets.

Explore distant worlds on foot and expand the frontier of known space.

Odyssey promises to improve exactly that. Soon, players will be able to actually embark on-foot sections. Furthermore, settlements and missions on planets aim to create good reasons to land on planets. You can learn more about the exploration aspects in previous dev diaries here.

But the big one is actual first-person combat. After five years, Elite Dangerous gets an FPS mode. A huge addition that actually adds a whole new way to play. Furthermore, this brings the space sim much closer to Star Citizen than ever before. True, the latter one’s scope is on another level but on the other hand, Elite Dangerous is actually a finished game.

The new dev diary video goes deep into the many new additions of Odyssey’s combat aspect. It’s also full of combat footage, and also highlights the new spacesuits, missions, and station interiors.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey targets early 2021 for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
