Writing
The novel Aangan was originally written by late Khadija Mastoor in 1962, which won Adamji Literacy Award in the same year. It was also translated in 13 languages. But as the director, Ehteshamuddin was most obsessed with partition, so he scripted the novel along with Mustafa Afridi as screenplayer. "It was initially thought out as a film but now we're making a play out of it," he told The News International in a March 2017 interview, "We might turn it into a film later." They worked on the script for more than one year before going on to filming. He told DAWN Images that the original novel is set in the era of 1940s and 1950s, while the drama will also feature the story of 1980s and 2000s in a continuity.
