Deutsch: Die beiden Salzhaken deuten auf das seit 1433 belegte Salzvorkommen hin und stehen zugleich redend für den Ortsnamen, der sich von Sulza in der Bedeutung von Sülze oder Salzwasser ableitet. Die Salzbrunnen im benachbarten Soden brachten bis 1750 Steuereinnahmen. Seit 1856 ist Soden ein Kurbad und führte den Ortsnamen Bad Sodenthal zur Unterscheidung von Bad Soden. Der Kurbetrieb wurde nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wieder eingestellt, der Ort nahm seinen alten Namen Soden wieder an. Das sechsspeichige Rad ist das Wahrzeichen des Kurstaates Mainz und erinnert an dessen Grundherrschaft, die für das 11. Jahrhundert angenommen wird, sowie an die spätere Landesherrschaft im Gemeindegebiet bis zum Ende des Alten Reichs 1803. Die Lilie ist dem Wappen der Herren von Sulzbach entnommen, dem einstigen Ortsadelsgeschlecht, Ministerialen des Erzstifts Mainz, die um 1500 ausgestorben sind. Der kleine Schild mit den drei Sparren ist das Wappen der Herren von Eppstein, die Lehen und Allodialbesitz in Sulzbach vom 12. Jahrhundert bis etwa 1425, vermutlich sogar bis zu ihrem Aussterben 1544 besaßen. Die Farben Silber und Rot sind die Farben des Kurstaates Mainz und Frankens. Sulzbach besteht seit 1972 aus den ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinden Dornau, Soden und Sulzbach und ist seit 1973 Markt. |
