[edit]DescriptionAndalousie, Grenade, square Joe Strummer. The Clash (2013).jpg |
Andalousie, Grenade, square Joe Strummer. The Clash. The British punk legend has a square named after him in Granada (Andalucia). The Spaniards helped introduce Joe Strummer to the culture of southern Andalusia and the work of Granada's most famous poet, Federico García Lorca, who was shot by a rightwing death squad during the Spanish civil war and buried in an unmarked mass grave in the hills above the city. Strummer later included both Lorca and Granada in his 1979 song Spanish Bombs on the London Calling album, and once tried to find and dig up the poet's grave. Officials confirmed (january 2013) they had chosen a square to be renamed Plaza Joe Strummer, after receiving a petition to honour the musician who moved there from London in 1984 as the Clash began to disintegrate.. |
