Though it may feel like a McU-level cameo of headline-grabbing names from the ’90s, one of the most surprising claims of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is true. Erik Menendez did actually know O.J. Simpson, at least for a brief time.
Their meeting happened in June of 1994, shortly after Simpson was arrested following his infamous Bronco chase. By that point, both brothers had been imprisoned for over four years.
Here’s everything we know about this stranger-than-fiction meeting and how “Monsters” retelling of it compares to other times Simpson has appeared in Ryan Murphy’s work.
Did the Menendez brothers know O.J. Simpson?
Just like in the Netflix series, Erik Menendez really was cell neighbors with O.J. Simpson. In Robert Rand’s “The Menendez Murders,” Erik said that he didn’t see Simpson cry during his first night but that he could hear him “moaning.” The...

Ryan Murphy's latest entry in his "Monsters" anthology series, "The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" -- a series which began in 2022 with Evan Peters as infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer -- focuses on Erik and Lyle Menendez (Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez), two brothers accused and subsequently convicted of killing their parents José and Kitty Menendez (Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny) in the late 1980s. Unsurprisingly, it's already courting controversy the way Murphy portrays the siblings and their family dynamic.
This happened with the "Monster" season focusing on Dahmer as well, with relatives of the real-life killer's victims saying the series "retraumatized" them and more or less glamorized Dahmer himself, so it's not entirely surprising that Murphy's often sensational approach to real stories is making waves again. Adapting a true crime story is absolutely a tricky thing to do, but still,...

"Two kids don't commit this crime for money." Netflix has revealed their official trailer for a documentary film titled The Menendez Brothers, streaming in October. This companion piece to their upcoming series is an actual, real documentary about the two murderers and their story. Netflix just launched their new true crime series titled Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story made by Ryan Murphy, about the infamous story of The Menendez Brothers from Beverly Hills killing their own parents. "30 years after the murders, the brothers tell their story." In 1996, the Menendez brothers faced trial for killing their parents, a case that captivated America. Years later, and they finally share their side through interviews from prison, along with others involved, offering a fresh take on the events. The doc is made by an Argentinian filmmaker and it has no connection to the Ryan Murphy series, though Netflix is hosting both to show...

Erik and Lyle Menendez are getting their own non-“Monsters” platform on Netflix.
Continuing a recent trend for true-crime series, Netflix will soon debut a documentary on the Menendez brothers to accompany their fictionalized Ryan Murphy series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which was released last week. The documentary, titled “The Menendez Brothers” and directed by Alejandro Hartmann, will be released on October 7.
Hartmann’s doc aims to offer “another perspective” on the infamous case. We got the trailer today — watch it below.
This one-two combination of a scripted series and then a documentary mirrors the strategy Peacock has employed with its “Dr. Death” seasons. NBCUniversal’s Peacock also recently released a series of Scott Peterson interviews from prison, which followed Netflix’s “American Murder: Laci Peterson.”

In 2022, Netflix and showrunner Ryan Murphy released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to mixed reviews and a tremendous amount of controversy.
While the series received acclaim from some critics for its performances and its unflinching portrayal of Dahmer’s grisly crimes, others felt that the show went too far in humanizing the monster at its core.
Now, Murphy is preparing to court controversy again, this time with the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez.

The Menendez brothers are far more sympathetic figures than Dahmer, but the fact remains that they committed two brutal murders, which the show will likely depict in graphic detail.
Their murder trial became a national sensation when it was broadcast on Court TV in 1993, but our younger readers might be hearing the Menendez name for the first time.

"Dahmer was just the beginning." Netflix has revealed a teaser for an intriguing true crime series called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, created by Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan. After making Dahmer, they came up with this series next. It's a dramatic version of their story, not really a doc series, but a thriller series based on a real crime, examining what might've been really going on. Two wealthy brothers stand trial for killing their parents, claiming self-defense after years of abuse, while prosecutors allege greed as the motive. The story follows Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers who fatally shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. During their trials, the brothers cited years of abuse as the reason for murdering their parents. However, prosecutors argued that their motive was to get their hands on the family fortune. Javier Bardem & Chloë Sevigny star as their parents Jose & Kitty Menendez,...

For the first time since his character was seemingly killed off on “General Hospital” earlier this year, actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) has officially confirmed his exit from the daytime drama series after posting a formal statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that ‘Gh’ gave me, and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors,” began Chavez in his statement before calling attention to Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, where he called him a “mentor and friend.” Chavez also notes he and the show are keeping the door open for a potential return should the opportunity arise.

General Hospital (Gh) spoilers note there’s a ton of speculations surrounding Nicholas Chavez’s (Spencer Cassadine) status with the soap. While he exited storylines on January 31 of this year, fans were under the impression that he would be back at some point, to wrap up his contract with the daytime drama.
After all, it was confirmed that the young actor would start filming the Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, as Nicholas is playing the role of Lyle Menendez.
Viewers were under the impression that he’d be gone for approximately three months – after his Monster movie duties finished up. Still, an unusual chain of events has some fans wondering if Nicholas or Spencer will end up returning to Port Charles, anytime soon.

Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny have been tapped to star opposite Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the second season of the acclaimed Netflix crime anthology Monster from creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
The pair will respectively play Jose and Kitty Menendez, the Beverly Hills couple murdered by sons Lyle (Chavez) and Erik (Koch). The new season comes on the heels of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which starred Evan Peters as the notorious serial killer and quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular English-language series ever when it debuted in September 2022.

The ten episode series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (read our review Here) was such a huge success for the Netflix streaming service last fall, Netflix ordered two more seasons of the show from creators Ian Brennan and American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy. Last month, it was announced that the second season will be titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story – and Deadline reports that Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) and Cooper Koch (They/Them) have been cast in the lead roles, with Chavez playing Lyle and Koch playing Erik.

Two sensational stories collide in Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed, a new three-part documentary series airing on Peacock. One helped bring the culture into the era of nonstop TV crime and jurisprudence coverage: the grisly 1989 murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez by their sons, Erik and Lyle. The other involves the former Puerto Rican boy band sensation Menudo, and longstanding accusations of sexual abuse against the group’s Svengali and manager, Edgardo Díaz. The Menendez brothers, currently serving life in prison, have always maintained that their father raped them from the time they were small children.
