As Paramount’s British series “A Gentleman in Moscow” hopes to break into the highly competitive limited series races, the show has submitted for 20 Primetime Emmys, including lead actor for star Ewan McGregor and supporting actress for Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
The eight-episode series follows an aristocrat, Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, who spends decades banished to an attic hotel room following the October Revolution after being sentenced to house arrest by a Bolshevik tribunal. Based on the 2016 novel by Amor Towles, the series was written by Ben Vanstone, who also serves as the executive producer and showrunner, and whose pilot episode titled “A Master of Circumstance” is submitted for consideration. The same episode will represent Sam Miller in the directing race, who has previously landed three Emmy bids: one for “Luther” in 2012 and two “I May Destroy You” in 2021.
The series received solid reviews from critics and boasted an impressive 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Florida Film Festival programming director Matthew Curtis hung out out with filmmaker Billy Corben at the Enzian Theater in Orlando last night during a screening of Corben's documentary, "Square Grouper." (Next week, Corben will premiere an even newer documentary, "Limelight," at the Tribeca Film Festival.) The two spoke affectionately of Corben's longtime history with the festival, as his first feature, "Raw Deal: A Question of Consent," played there ten years ago.

It's a critical landslide folks as the Chicago, Florida and St. Louis Film Critic Associations have all recently named David Fincher's The Social Network the best film of 2010. Additionally, David Fincher (Best Director), Colin Firth (Best Actor), Natalie Portman (Best Actress) and Christian Bale (Best Supporting Actor) were named on all three lists while Melissa Leo (The Fighter) was named Best Supporting Actress by the Florida and St. Louis critics while Hailee Steinfeld was named by the Chicago group and named runner-up by the St. Louis crix.

I'm just going to keep using this one photo I concocted below until people stop with the Hailee Steinfeld is a supporting actress in True Grit meme. I've even seen her so labelled In Reviews that have nothing to do with Oscars. Oscar culture has truly distorted all concepts of narrative in our modern society. I realize that I'm the lone ornery voice of dissent but, so what? I'm demonstrating my own true grit; Hailee would be proud of me... well, except for the part where I wouldn't nominate her.
But, the ageism and sexism of movie awards is really getting to me this year, sorry.
Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), the captain of True Grit's ship. Fact: No teenage boy who was leading a picture like True Grit (just imagine the gender reversed) would ever win any awards beyond "breakthrough." Remember when Leonardo DiCaprio won all those statues for...
