Director Rishav Kapoor’s short film ‘Next, Please’ is a story of love and cynicism straddling both history and future. The film, which stars actor Jim Sarbh, has quite an ambitious and innovative plot, as it explores modern dating in virtual reality, where a woman embarks on a quest for love and finds herself transported to a 1950s ‘aunty bar’.
An extremely topical film that deals with the complexities of modern relationships and virtual dating, as well as the problems that come with it, ‘Next, Please’ is thematically something very different.
The film has been written by Chaitanya Tamhane as well as produced by him.
Talking about working with the ‘Court’ director, Rishav said that the duo has aimed to break new ground with their film. Elaborating on his collaboration with the acclaimed Marathi director, Rishav stated: “Bringing a Chaitanya Tamhane screenplay to life was an immensely exciting opportunity. It...

James Hawes‘ Holocaust drama “One Life” will be the American Express Gala at the 67th BFI London Film Festival.
The film tells the true story of Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to WWII, rescued 669 children from the Nazis. Fifty years later, in 1988, Winton is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to bring to safety in England. It’s not until a live television show “That’s Life” surprises him with the surviving children – now adults – seated all around him that he can finally make peace with the loss he had carried for five decades.
The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce and Helena Bonham-Carter.
Hawes said: “This film pretty much begins and ends in London and says so much about the people of this city, its heart and its history.

Shooting Clerks: Biopic about the making of Kevin Smith’s groundbreaking film to premiere this month
Kevin Smith, who has recently been approved with a SAG waiver to make his new movie The 4:30 Movie, is one of the biggest pioneers in independent filmmaking in the 1990s. He joins Robert Rodriguez as someone who was able to make a feature film on a minuscule budget with basically no crew on a do-it-yourself mentality. Both directors would gain acclaim for their efforts as both Clerks and El Mariachi won over fans at film festivals and started a revolution of non-studio productions. Smith would go on to carry over the characters Jay and Silent Bob onto his other films, including their own spin-offs, and even made two sequels to the one that started it all.
It’s hard for aspiring filmmakers not to be inspired by the groundbreaking indie film, and in a bit of poetry, indie filmmakers have made a movie about Kevin Smith and the making...

Displaced men dream of Europe but are stuck on a Scottish island in Ben Sharrock’s spot-on sophomore feature
“A musician who doesn’t play music is dead” is an aphorism that gets mentioned several times in “Limbo,” but Syrian oud player Omar isn’t dead; he’s just stuck on an island off the coast of Scotland, hoping for asylum.
In writer-director Ben Sharrock’s exquisitely crafted sophomore feature, Omar is one of several men from around the world caught between past and future, between despair and hope, sustained only by the possibility of leaving families and cultures behind and creating a new home for themselves. In the meantime, there is waiting, there are English lessons, and there are “Friends” reruns.
Omar spends most of the film carrying around his bulky oud without being able to play it — like most of the metaphors in “Limbo,” it’s more graceful...

Directed by Kookie Gulati
Abhishek Bachchan as a Harshad Mehta doppelganger delivers a career-defining performance. His Hemant Shah is wildly ambitious, sly, mean, egotistic and callous. He gets his way with influential people with his rustic charm and native intelligence.
I saw all of this in Abhishek’s smirking performance. I also saw a lot of research go into the storytelling. There are alleged facts here about the Harshad scam that shook the nation in the 1980s. They will make you think as well in 2021 about the world around us. The more things change the more they are the same.Yawn.

Sweeping into snowy Scottish Highlands at the very start of Ryan Hendrick’s new romcom Lost at Christmas sets the perfect festive scene. Only the coldest of hearts would not be melted by this magnificent sight. The film’s idyllic setting continues to entice throughout the story, with the latter half played out in an isolated inn set within the impressive mountainous landscape – the stuff of picturesque Christmas dreams.
Based on acclaimed 2015 short Perfect Strangers by the same writer-director, the 2020 feature sees two strangers from Glasgow, optimistic and festive Jen (Love Bite and Still Game‘s Natalie Clark) and cynical Rob stranded in the Highlands after both being dumped/duped on on Christmas Eve. They decide to team up to get back to the big city in time for Christmas Day, but have obstacles placed along the way, including the unpredictable weather, that allows for feelings to flourish and Christmas spirit to reign once more.

For my money and time, Akshay Kumar is the most watchable star in Bollywood today. See Airlift. You will know why. Unlike the other superstars, his growth is constant. Every film — and I include his steady stream of comedy films — finds him touch base with new depths of emotions within himself.
In Airlift, to play Ranjit Katyal, the unsung unknown hero who masterminded the evacuation of thousands of Indians stranded in Kuwait in August 1990 when Saddam Hussain’s battle-drunk army decided to take over, Akshay delivers a performance that is subtle and skilled. He weaves his way around the crisis, looking for centre to his war-torn conscience-stricken character. When he finds that centre, the actor builds a character who uses his negotiating skills as an entrepreneur to rescue innumerable lives from danger.

Still Game is to return for a new stage show, it has been announced.

The comedy duo - who also co-wrote and starred in Chewin' the Fat - parted ways due to "creative differences" in 2008.

Today, as Abhishek Bachchan grows a year older and pretends to be much older than he really is, I think back to the day almost two years in April 2011 when he came to my home in Patna. At around 6 pm when Abhishek taken off his shoes and had plonked himself comfortably on the floor in our house and we were all bitching about the whole industry, a neatly dressed man walked straight in and requested for a picture.I presumed he was part of Abhishek’s extended entourage of security guards, publicity co-ordinators and photographers. It turned out to be a man from the street who had slipped past the tight security, walked confidently up the four flights of stairs to our top floor, got his picture and walked out.

Fans will get to hear a never-before-heard Kishore Kumar number which will be unveiled online on Wednesday the 13th of October on the eve of the singing sensation’s 23rd death anniversary. Reports claim that Kishore Kumar recorded a naughty, comic number on the lines of ‘Ladkiyon ko chahiye woh college mein seekhlein’ for the film “Rehnuma” which never saw the day of light. The Madan Mohan composition of the 1970s too thus got shelved and will be released on the musician’s website on Wednesday.

The music of Ram Gopal Varma’s latest offering ‘Rann’, which has Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, is not one that music buffs would like to sit and listen to. All the songs are situational and might look good on screen, but they are not really pleasing to the ears.
The album, composed by five composers, has seven songs.
‘Besharam’,.
