Last week, Joseph McGinty Nichol's YA adaptation "Uglies" found its way to No. 1 on the Top 10 U.S. Netflix films charts despite being critically panned and ridiculed on social media. The film's popularity might have been due to curiosity about its premise; it takes place in a post-war dystopia that forces a specific, homogenous idea of beauty upon its populace. This is not a surprise, as Netflix charts have often underlined the popularity of baffling titles, but we have already moved on from the Joey King-starring YA thriller to an animated comedy film about a sassy tabby cat.

Isn’t it amazing what a little determination and a lot of hard work can accomplish? Take Chris Pratt, for instance—his first breakout role had him as the snack-loving, pudgy Andy Dwyer in Parks & Recreation. We actually hadn’t predicted that this jovial character would transform into the chiseled Star-Lord, stunning audiences in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Over the years, Aubrey Plaza has become known for her deadpan humor and rather quirky roles. However, the one that has stood the test of time was her role as April Ludgate in the beloved sitcom, Parks and Recreation. Although the series came to an end years ago, the actress has managed to keep one thing from it alive: her love for her co-star and on-screen love interest, Chris Pratt.

Longtime readers of superhero comics will be able to tell you that death is little more than an inconvenience. Famous characters are regularly killed, only to be resurrected several months later through whatever magical conceits the writers can invent. One might find that a superhero didn't actually die, but only fell into a Kryptonian coma. Or perhaps a compatriot of the deceased has access to black magic and can resurrect their dead friend with the help of a few handy spells. Time travel is also useful for retrieving a downed solider.
Now that the multiverse is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, audiences everywhere are learning that there are no stakes whatsoever. If there are infinite parallel versions of every character, any one of them dying can be undone in a jiffy. One can merely hop over to a parallel universe, pick up a duplicate, and return without any consequences.

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar… but that hasn’t made it any easier to get their sci-fi adventure film The Electric State out into the world. The project was first announced back in 2017, when the Russos purchased the film rights to the The Electric State graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, with their frequent collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely working on the screenplay and Andy Muschietti in negotiations to direct. The project was set up at Universal in 2020, by which time Muschietti had stepped back into an executive producer role while the Russos took the helm. Then Universal passed it over to Netflix. Filming finally began in 2022 and wrapped in early 2023, with some reshoots taking place this year. Now it looks like The Electric State...

John Cena has zoomed into his latest action franchise and is slated to star in Apple Original Film “Matchbox,” the latest feature adaptation of an iconic Mattel toy brand.
Sam Hargrave is set to direct the live-action feature film with Skydance co-producing alongside Mattel.
David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper are penning the script.
Read the studio’s official synopsis, below:
“Matchbox” will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans.

Steven Knight has talked up the “mindblowing” Peaky Blinders movie cast, but he is keeping tight-lipped about the project as it gears up for production.
Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan have joined Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, leader of the eponymous Birmingham gangster family.
Plot details of the Harper-directed feature are being held close, but Knight has previously told Deadline that the story will be set during World War II. Netflix greenlighted the Peaky feature in June.
“We’ve announced Rebecca Ferguson, we’ve announced Barry Keoghan, we’ve got some more announcements coming,” Knight told the Rts London Convention. “It’s set in the Second World War and it’s really good.”
Producers are Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The feature will be made in association with BBC Film.

In the realm of television, few shows have managed to capture the hearts of viewers quite like Parks and Recreation. From its humble beginnings, the series emerged as a beacon of optimism and wit, contrasting sharply with the often cynical landscape of modern media. But behind the scenes, there was a pivotal moment when Parks and Recreation was nearly altered in a way that could have changed its legacy forever.

The biopic of Kiss – Shout It Out Loud – is set to be directed by Terminator Salvation and Charlie’s Angels’ McG – more here.
Biopics of bands and music stars are proving to be solid box office, as even the middlingly-received Bob Marley: One Love demonstrated earlier this year. As these words are being written, preparation work continues on a biopic of the Bee Gees that Ridley Scott will be directing next year, while Sam Mendes is going three better, and putting together four films about The Beatles.
There’s been talk about a Kiss biopic meanwhile for a few years now, and it was back in 2021 that it looked like it was going to happen. Joachim Ronning was going to direct at that point, and it was going to be made with Netflix money.
Netflix appears to have dropped out of the project though, perhaps part of its newly-found frugality towards movies.

In a post-credit scene at the end of 2023's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," Chris Pratt's Peter Quill can be seen eating cereal with his grandpa, having returned to earth following the events of the film. That movie itself seemed like somewhat of a farewell to the ragtag hero team led by Quill, with director James Gunn delivering a heart-warming sendoff before departing for his role as head of the newly-formed DC Studios. At the end of the post-credit scene, however, on-screen text promised that "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return," suggesting that while Gunn might be done with the saga, Pratt and Star-Lord were here to stay.
But without the director who'd taken the Guardians from a little-known Marvel property to a reliably popular blockbuster franchise, it was hard to imagine just how "legendary" Star-Lord's return would be. The tone of the "Guardians" movies was in large...

The world of reality media entertainment has more drama than all of Big Little Lies and Pretty Little Liars combined. Despite the existence of endless shows like 90 Day Fiancé, the market for this particular “genre” never seems to run out of demand. In turn, fans enjoy a constant voyeuristic supply of hysterical, disastrous, and often annoyingly enviable relationship drama that pairs up strangers by exploiting their need for companionship and fear of missing out.

McG is in final talks to direct and produce “Shout It Out Loud,” a biopic about the legendary rock band Kiss with founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley serving as executive producers, individuals with knowledge of the talks confirmed to TheWrap.
With their signature face paint, over-the-top stage costumes and pyro-filled live shows, Kiss has built up one of the most wildly passionate fanbases ever seen in music history since their debut album 50 years ago.
In 1975, the band broke out with their first live album “Alive!,” which is considered to be one of the greatest live albums ever recorded and began a slew of hit songs that includes “Detroit Rock City,” “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” and their most famous single, “Rock and Roll All Nite.”
While lead guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss departed from the band, Simmons and Stanley continued Kiss with replacements Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.

We’ve seen plenty of musical biopics over the years, so it’s somewhat surprising that we’ve never seen one about Kiss, the iconic rock band formed by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. A Kiss biopic has been in development for several years, but it’s been slow going. However, Deadline reports that it’s taking a big leap forward as McG (Terminator Salvation) is in final negotiations to direct Shout It Out Loud.
Shout It Out Loud is set to be produced by STX Entertainment, and Deadline reports that the studio is talking with Lionsgate to co-finance the project and distribute it worldwide. Darren Lemke (Shazam!) penned the most recent draft of the script. The project was initially going to be set up at Netflix with Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale) directing, but it seems it went back on the market.

During the actor’s reigning era, Kevin Costner made quite a name for himself after his Hollywood debut during the mid to late-1980s. With sports dramas being all the rage at the time, Costner caught a lucky break as 2 of his earliest films, Field of Dreams and Bull Durham, helped establish the young striving artist as a fully recognized actor and the industry’s next in-demand movie star.
However, Kevin Costner’s current presence in modern television has been a highly disruptive event following his voluntary self-exile from the Yellowstone series finale. But despite the controversies, the recent media traffic involving Costner has only attracted the major Hollywood studios to cash in on the sudden upsurge in popularity by reviving his older mid-budget films via reboots and remakes.

Several actors from the popular Marvel franchise Guardians of the Galaxy have expressed interest in working together again outside of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Dave Bautista, known for playing Drax the Destroyer, has said he wants to collaborate more with his Guardians co-stars such as Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana. He recently appeared alongside Pom Klementieff from Guardians in the Lionsgate film The Killer’s Game, set for release on September 13.
The director of the Guardians movies, James Gunn, now co-runs DC Studios along with Peter Safran. When asked about possibly joining the DC Universe, Bautista responded that he would be open to it if the part was right. He added that he enjoys working with Gunn. Gunn himself hinted on social media that Guardians stars could appear in upcoming DC projects, cryptically replying to a fan’s question about castings.
Actors crossing over between the two major superhero franchises is already occurring.

Is he down with the ideas?

In James Gunn's 2017 sci-fi film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," the would-be superhero Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who insists that others call him Star-Lord, learned the shocking truth about his lineage. Peter previously assumed he was a mere human, abducted from Earth by aliens when he was 12. Peter only kept memories of Earth from what it looked like in the 1980s when he was taken. He listened to a vintage Earth Walkman, and was closely familiar with the pop culture of the time. The shock came when Peter finally met his actual biological father, a charming, powerful space deity called Ego (Kurt Russell).
At first, Peter was thrilled to learn that he was half space deity, and came to love his new dad, especially when they played catch and talked about their respective lives. Peter became disturbed, however, when he learned Ego's true M.O. for appearing in his life.

Winning a total of seven Academy Awards for his 1990 Western film, Dances With Wolves, including for Best Director against acclaimed filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Kevin Costner has since been hailed as one of the greatest filmmakers in the industry. However, the ill-fated Horizon Saga has cast doubts on the enduring brilliance.

As the epic Western saga fails to capture the same magic, it has raised questions about whether his directorial prowess was perhaps overestimated, with the actor lacking any substantial recognition from Academy Awards even 34 years after the release of Dances With Wolves.
Did the Oscars Overestimate Kevin Costner’s Directorial Genius?
Surpassing the likes of Martin Scorsese, who was nominated for his 1990 film Goodfellas, Kevin Costner won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture, along with earning a Best Actor nomination for Dances With Wolves.

If you think Red Sonja is a cinematic low for Arnold Schwarzenegger, hold onto your popcorn! Helmed by Richard Fleischer and penned by Clive Exton and George MacDonald Fraser, this 1985 flick might not have snagged any Oscars, but it does offer a buffet of campy fun and over-the-top sword fights.
Fans of the Austrian Oak, however, argue that this sword-and-sorcery movie isn’t even close to his worst film. That dubious honor goes to Hercules in New York (1970), the actor’s debut flick.

Schwarzenegger’s first big screen outing, directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, has been widely panned. The movie’s reputation is so poor that fans often scratch their heads, baffled by how the actor went from this flop to a superstar. One especially puzzled viewer even asked, “How did he become a star?”

Deadline is reporting that Jon Spaihts, who worked with Denis Villeneuve on the screenplays for the Dune films and penned the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence space romance drama Passengers, will be making his directorial debut on a film that he will also write. It is a yet-to-be-titled sci-fi thriller and will be produced by Laika’s live-action division. The Oregon-based studio is usually known for their animation work and has been nominated for a number of Academy Awards. Their specialty also lies predominantly on stop-motion animation.
While details are scant at the moment, per Deadline, the new sci-fi thriller will tell “the tale of a woman investigating a mystery that took place during a week she cannot remember.” Spaihts spoke of his directorial debut in a statement that said, “This is an original passion project I’ve been eager to turn to for a while, and I couldn’t ask for better partners.

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy wrapped up with last May's Vol. 3 and, while we expect to see at least some of those characters again, it was a chance for others to bid farewell to their time in the MCU.
Dave Bautista always seemed a tad dissatisfied with how things played out for him as Drax; Marvel Studios never made good on its promise to pit him against Thanos and the Destroyer grew increasingly less serious thanks to the actor's perfect comic timing.
He's since said that he's done with Marvel but seems keen to join Gunn's new Dcu.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister admitted he doesn't miss Drax but does miss the bond the Guardians of the Galaxy cast formed.
"No, I wouldn't say I miss him," Bautista started. "What I do miss is the family environment. It's hard knowing...

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” was released over a year ago and brought several important developments to the MCU. Unlike some other recent MCU projects, the third installment in the “Guardians” series was a success with both critics and at the box office.
As the movie shows, the team eventually went their separate ways. Star-Lord went back to Earth to reconnect with his human side, and Gamora joined the Ravagers. Mantis decided to pursue her own path and personal goals. Meanwhile, Nebula and Drax stayed on Knowhere to take care of the children they had rescued from the High Evolutionary’s ship.
The MCU has introduced a new Guardians of the Galaxy team consisting of Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp, with Rocket Raccoon now serving as their leader. There are hints that Star-Lord might return, and Chris Pratt has expressed his willingness to take on more adventures as the character.

Michael Keaton Never Got Why His Batman Casting Received Hate - Main Image
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton admits he "never understood" what the big fuss was all about surrounding his casting in Tim Burton's Batman, a film that would later become a cult classic and cement Keaton as one of the all-time greats to ever don the cape and cowl.
Michael Keaton Recalls Batman Fans' Divisive Reactions Over His Casting

The year is 2045 and crime is at the brink of extinction, all thanks to the specialized crime-fighting department, Precrime. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Minority Report follows the story of Precrime chief John Anderton played by Tom Cruise. All’s well in the Washington metropolitan area but things quickly take a turn when John finds himself standing in front of the law’s accusatory finger.
