For the male stripper group Wet Dreams, business is not exactly booming. The bottom has fallen out of the market for four middle-aged blokes taking their kit off and, after a disastrous booking at a birthday party, it looks like it’s time to call it a day. However, front man Alan (Dean Kilbey) decides to buy out longtime manager Deano (Liam Noble) and can’t believe his luck when he instantly lands the guys a lucrative gig in a rural part of Essex.
Of course, there’s a catch – and what a catch it is. Not only has Alan not read the small print about the specific outfits he and his mates will be required to don, neither he nor his mates is prepared for the part they’ve been lined up to play in a ritual which plans to bring a murdered 16th century witch back from the dead.

Sean Connery’s legacy in film history is irrefutable just as much as his contribution to the evolution of late 20th-century cinema. Despite the era’s misgivings and misogyny, Connery remains an irrevocable icon for his role as James Bond in the franchise’s first live-action film Dr. No. His blue-eyed, broad-shouldered, and laid-back charm not only hypnotized millions but also brought the Scotsman fame on a level previously unheard of.
Sean Connery in Goldfinger [Credit: United Artists]However, under fame’s seductive grip, Connery ended up shunning other roles that would go on to become equally iconic in the years to come. Sadder still, the actor blatantly used his fame as a tool to lord over industry producers and directors for a bigger payday.
Sean Connery Passed Up on Iconic Role Due to James Bond
Ruthless, sadistic, and diabolical, Brick Top remains one of the most exaggerated and terrifying on-screen villains to date.

Britain’s contributions to the cinematic form have been vast and glorious. Aardman Animation. Alfred Hitchcock. Olivia Colman. 007. High up that list, too, is the British gangster movie – sure, America may often get the genre limelight with classics like Goodfellas, The Godfather trilogy, and Scarface, but nobody does dark, gritty, violent, and darkly humorous quite like the British. You certainly wouldn’t catch football-hardman-turned-movie-hardman Vinnie Jones rolling down the street with some poor geezer’s bonce trapped in his car window anywhere else, that’s for sure!
And so, with tracksuits on, geezer nicknames doled out, and knuckles dusted, Team Empire assembled a list of the very best British gangster movies ever made. From comedy classics, to bruising turn-of-the-century tales of brutality and crime, to contemporary subversions of the genre formula, we’ve covered all bases. These are films of culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog,...

The two "Exorcist" prequels, "Exorcist: The Beginning" and "Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist," offer something that may be unique in the whole of cinema; a strange case of one actor playing the same character in two different versions of the same film shot back-to-back. Oh, and the first version was only released after the second proved a total dog. It's a story of epic studio interference that makes the tacked-on ending William Peter Blatty was forced to shoot for "The Exorcist III" seem like a minor tweak. Morgan Creek studio head James G. Robinson was the person responsible for that change, and he one-upped himself when it came to the prequel.
After two directors parted company with the project, he hired Paul Schrader. That might seem like a shrewd choice given the subject matter of doubting priests and matters of the soul, something that Schrader has wrestled with in his...

Lovable British rogues have enthralled cinema goers for the better part of a century in classic London crime capers like Brighton Rock, The Lavender Hill Mob, The Italian Job and The Long Good Friday, through to McVicar, Lock Stock, Sexy Beast and Legend (2015). Even when brandishing knuckle dusters, plotting to off little old ladies, threatening to shit the Ira or taking their shirts off (cas they’re “sweating like a c*%t”), these antiheroes have made a massive mark in cinema over the decades. Despite being synonymous with heist movies they are arguably a genre unto themselves yet, but while the widespread affection remains, there hasn’t been a truly memorable cockney/ London crime film or character for quite some time.
In 2015, the infamous Hatton Garden robbery, in which £200 million’s worth of cash and jewels were stolen from safety deposit boxes, provided film producers with the basis for a fresh and relevant take.

It’s been 16 years since Guy Ritchie’s London crime story, “Snatch,” first debuted in the U.S., and, while the black comedy pulled in a decent sum, its primary accomplishment was of a cult fandom (and earning Guy Ritchie a shot at the big time). With that in mind, I don’t feel too bad for only remembering a few key moments from a film built on a sharp wit and distinct characters:
Alan Ford’s thick, creepy glasses; Dennis Farina’s crass American foil to all those classy Brits; Jason Statham proving he can do more than just beat the hell out of his co-stars; the tragic fate of Benicio del Toro’s Franky Four Fingers; and, of course, the sole iconic element of Ritchie’s first major studio film (aside from ultra slo-mo fight scenes): Brad Pitt’s gibberish-spouting gypsy boxer with a devastating right hook,...

Taking a look through Guy Ritchie’s back catalogue, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better example of the director’s cheeky, chaotic style than Snatch, the movie that gave us Brad Pitt as barely understandable gypsy and Alan Ford’s memorable crime boss Brick Top. Now, Snatch is following in the footsteps of Lethal Weapon, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Fargo, making the jump to t.v. with streaming service Crackle commissioning a new series based on the hit movie. The series will premiere it first series, made of ten one hour episodes, in 2017, and the synopsis promises a new story that will skew close to the source material: Inspired by a real life heist in London, Snatch centers on a group of twenty-something, up and coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime.

There is something very likable about Matt Berry, and it’s not just his awesome voice. The fact that we see him in many British comedies shows just how talented he is, and with Toast of London: Series Three we see him at his best.
It would be easy to believe that Steven Toast is Matt Berry, the character feels like the ones we’ve seen him play before. In Toast of London though we see him sending up the stereotypical “Luvvies” acting community that we usually see haunting the streets of London looking for their next job.
Each episode of the show typically sees Toast being given a job by his “old school” agent Jane Plough (Doon Mackichan) and given some bad advice by his housemate Ed Howzer-Black (Robert Bathurst). What makes Toast of London interesting though is not only the outlandish characters that we meet, but also...

While Halloween was fast approaching, I was getting incredibly restless with which Horror film or rather films I’d spend the day watching. I mean, do I play safe and watch something like ‘Shaun of the Dead’ or even ‘Alien’ that I must admit, I both love and have seen a million, trillion times each. Or shall I search for a movie that I haven’t seen before. It’s a completely daft question to get myself worked up over; but if you’re such a film buff and Horror fanatic as I am, you should easily understand.
That’s when a little challenge was thrown my way. Why not travel around the world – not in a physical sense, but in the comfort of my home – and find a Horror film I haven’t seen from as many countries as possible. It’s easy enough to do,...

The gangster movie is a beast very like the gangs it is based on. Depending on the country of origin the crime organisations tend to have certain looks and style and a certain tradition that they cling to as their laws of how to do business. The modern gangster movies are definitely an example of this, but they also share one thing in common, they lend a lot from The Long Good Friday which gets the Arrow Video treatment with its new release on Blu-ray.

The modern British gangster movies are strange beasts, and I admit I do have a weakness for them. With acting that is often questionable and stories that tend to be on the sillier side of crime thrillers they have a charm that can even survive a Danny Dyer starring role (that was a joke, don’t bite my head off). The Smoke, to be fair, only takes a gentle stroll into the British gangster movie style, though it does feature some actors that you’ve seen in them before, and more bizarrely more than its fair share of soap stars too.

Without the help of some brave investors, or the pockets of their makers, the following films would never have existed...
It's now a fairly common mantra that you'd be a fool to put up all of your own personal money into a feature film. By all means invest, but share the risk, or throw a few quid at Kickstarter.
Paying for the bulk of the negative/hard drive yourself, and leaving your own assets exposed? Utter lunacy.

For some time, Mel Gibson had, alongside his acting roles, been heavily invested in his production company, Icon. As such, he had two significant ways to earn money, and he needed both of them when it came to making The Passion Of The Christ.

The hit book heads to the big screen - Simon checks out The 100 Year Old Man
I hear the book's really good. In fact, Jonas Jonasson's The 100-Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared is something of a phenomenon, earning rave reviews and selling lots of copies. And it starts, as the film does, with its title. Allan Karlsson is 100 years old. He's spending his birthday sat in an old people's home, surrounded by fuss that he doesn't really want. So he elects to climb out of the window, and begin a quite incredible life adventure.
In fact, as we learn throughout the story, he's already lived many life adventures, meaning we get to spend time with current Allan and past Allan, with the story jumping between the two. The film casts Robert Gustafsson in the title role, and he captures the mischief and coincidence...

With the release of The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared impending, we had the pleasure of speaking to the man at the helm, Felix Herngren. We discussed what inspired him to adapt this from the original novel, why he chose Robert Gustafsson for the lead role Allan, and how he balanced the comedy with the more poignant elements of the narrative. He also tells us how Alan Ford (Brick Top from Snatch) came to be involved…
The 100 Year Old Man is of course a novel originally – was it a book you always wanted to bring to the big screen, or were you actively on the lookout for ideas for a screenplay?
My friend Henrik Jansson-Schweizer, who is also a producer on the film, called me up a few years ago and said that I had to read this book it would make a fantastic film.

Based on the popular Jonas Jonasson novel of the same name, you’ll be thrilled to hear that this Felix Herngren production remains wholly faithful to the somewhat descriptive, elongated title. As this offbeat, surrealistic comedy, as promised, tells the wondrous story of The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared.
The titular protagonist is Allan Karlsson (Robert Gustafsson), a mischievous elderly resident, with an inclination to blow stuff up from time to time. One day, he escapes out of the window at his care facility to go for an adventure, taking the train to the first place that springs to mind. En route, he inadvertently finds himself the owner of a stranger’s bag – which soon transpires to have millions of euros within it. Suddenly he becomes the target of a dangerous gang of criminals who the money belongs to. However this is not the...

Filmmakers are a surprising lot. While their films may be brash and bold, they’re personas are often far more quiet and demure than one would expect. With the release of one of the brashest, most over the top and genuinely hilarious comedy horrors in recent memory Cockneys vs Zombies, director Matthias Hoene is no exception. Think the best parts of early Guy Ritchie mixed with the sweetness of Shaun of the Dead and you’ve got Cockneys vs Zombies directed by the German born Hoene, who is quiet yet passionate about his film and he has every reason to be.
Cockneys vs Zombies packs an over the top sense of humor (including the all important Cockney Rhyming Slang) that has come out of the East end of London, several storylines, action, and a one of a kind cast. It’s a film that has travelled across genre film festivals...

There’s a lot of human trafficking going on with Ara Paiaya’s “Skin Traffik.” Mainly, it’s with the casting announcements.
Raging Pictures announced several known actors joining the cast of “Skin Traffik,” including Mickey Rourke, Daryl Hannah, Eric Roberts, Michael Madsen, Gary Daniels, Jeff Fahey, Dominique Swain and Alan Ford.
“Skin Traffik” immerses the viewer into the inhuman world of human trafficking as it allows a jaded hit man to regain his humanity in this dark tale of redemption and sacrifice. It is set amidst a brutal underworld in which daily survival is not so much a skill, but an instinct.
The project is helmed by Paiaya, who is a cult film director known for his unique action filmmaking skills. He is best known for 2011’s “The Suppressor.”
The soundtrack will feature music by Keaton Simons (“NCIS: Los Angeles”).
It is currently in production in Los Angeles.

Title: Cockneys vs. Zombies Director: Matthias Hoene Starring: Harry Treadaway, Michelle Ryan, Alan Ford, Rasmus Hardiker, Honor Blackman, Georgia King A satisfying, enormously likable genre cocktail, “Cockneys vs. Zombies” not only delivers upon its title promise, but does so with wit and fleet-of-foot aplomb. The story centers around brothers Andy and Terry McGuire (Harry Treadaway and Rasmus Hardiker, respectively), who, along with sis Katy (Michelle Ryan), seize upon a [ Read More ]

With a name like Cockneys vs. Zombies, you can pretty much guess what you’re in for while watching the latest UK zombie import from director Matthias Hoene. Featuring a handful of recognizable British actors (Alan Ford Ftw!), Cockneys vs. Zombies really doesn’t offer much ingenuity in the zombie subgenre, but it’s a rather enjoyable movie if you’re looking for foul-mouthed, gun-toting octogenarians battling hordes of the undead with a bit of a caper twist thrown in for good measure.
Cockneys vs. Zombies follows gangster brothers Andy (Harry Treadaway) and Terry (Rasmus Hardiker) who are planning a heist in order to stop the retirement home their grandfather lives in from closing down. Of course, nothing goes as planned when a zombie outbreak occurs suddenly, forcing Andy and Terry to retreat and figure out a way to save their grandpa and his friends trapped inside their facility who...
