Pre-Emption Street fire

The Geneva Fire Department and other companies fought a blaze Saturday morning on Pre-Emption Street on the northeast border of the city.

GENEVA — City Fire Chief Del Parrotta said a home at 3 Pre-Emption St. is likely a total loss following a fire Saturday morning.

Parrotta said firefighters arrived around 9:30 a.m. to check on a report of a possible house fire at the home on the city’s northeast side.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the roof and front of the home with active fire inside,” he said. “Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack and found heavy fire on the first and second floors. Conditions inside made any further attempts to extinguish unattainable from the inside. A decision was made to pull the fire crews out and make an exterior defense attack.”

Parrotta said the fire was brought under control in just under an hour, and there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.

“Although a fast and professional response from the Geneva firefighters, the house will most likely be a total loss,” Parrotta said.

Geneva police and White Springs and West Lake Road fire departments were at the scene. The Border City Fire Department was on standby.

NYSEG, the American Red Cross, and the Ontario County Emergency Management office also responded to the scene.
