SCII Collab

Just talked to User:Gary King and he said if you're up the three of us could try to reclaim the good topic by getting SCII to good/featured. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 05:54, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Starcraft cleanup enquiry

Hi S@bare, nice to meet you :)

I was just wondering about your removal of the additional piece of info I added to the Starcraft article:

"(which isn't always the case, however, once the game reaches its later stages)"

This part was removed with the annotation: "excessive detail".

Could you please explain to a newbie how do you decide if something is excessive or not? Are there some strict rules on that?

Thank! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flamingo85 (talkcontribs) 03:27, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly at this point you're better off removing. The sticking point is that the prose doesn't explicitly address the issue in regards to Guybrush's character design; unless some additional text can be added to that point, I don't think Jappa's going to be satisfied, and Sandy considers him the maestro of image checking these days :) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 17:27, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further Valve Task Force Action

Hey, I'm the newest member of the Valve Task Force, which you started. I took the liberty of adding Alien Swarm and Dota 2, the latter of which is Valve's newest announced game, to the page. I also updated the quality ratings to their present forms.

I did notice, however, that the Task Force has been somewhat dormant. Would it be possible to send out messages to the 23 participants about participating in the Task Force? Also, the To-Do List could use some updating, considering that there are a few new pages in the works and the rankings have shifted. DarthBotto talkcont 02:34, 06 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations

Your incredibly hard work paid off, and Tales of Monkey Island is now Featured. Congratulations. A Monkey Island article getting to FA is definitely a WPVG milestone; I hope that the other articles in the series one day match up to the quality of this one. Triple crown

Sabre- have you nominated yourself for a regular triple crown? I noticed that you're not listed on Wikipedia:Triple Crown. Would you like me to nominate you? (Guyinblack25 talk 22:42, 3 March 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Have you played Portal 2? - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 21:12, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My comment wasn't attitude-fueled; it was a legitimate question to make sure you played Portal 2 before I discussed it with you. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 21:48, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem; I noticed that the statement seemed snide when posting. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 23:05, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for inadvertently vandalising Half-Life: Decay

Per title, was just going over my edits and I noticed this. I have Hotcat installed and must have accidentally clicked one of those tiny - signs without noticing because obviously it does fit in that category. Thanks for fixing that. Ajbpearce (talk) 21:05, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive editor on Carcano page.

Hello fellow Wikipedia user and historical military enthusiast. Are you by any chance an administrator? I would like to report an IP address that has been making numerous disruptive edits on the Carcano rifle page. IP address 99.248.217.171 has continuously replaced the primary image (which I personally uploaded) with an image link to a forum claming that it is incorrectly formatted when clearly there is nothing wrong. In addition, on July 6, 2011 at 01:58, he deleted the entire article and replaced it with "Have fun rewriting this!" If you could assist me in this matter that would be greatly appreciated. Also if you are not an administrator, if you could perhaps get me in touch with one I would be most grateful.

Thank you kindly, Antique Military Rifles (talk) 16:26, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again S@bre. Unfortunatley the IP address which we discussed is continuing their disruptive behavior on the Carcano page. I looked at the WP:AN/I page but I'm exactly sure on which section I should go to. If you assist me again I will be most grateful. Thank you again, Antique Military Rifles (talk) 18:44, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Sabre! I am going to improve the article so it can be promoted to GA status and I would like you to review (I know that you are LucasArts games enthusiast, having contributed to Steve Purcell, Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max Hit the Road articles). What things the article needs in your opinion? (with the exception of Gameplay section, of course) Thank you. Electroguv (talk) 18:26, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! I was wondering if you could do some copyediting to Development section. I will be busy for a day with finding sources for the Special Edition and I think that some prose may need refining in that time. Thank you. Electroguv (talk) 12:31, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Just wanted to say - I do already have a printed source on hands - it's Retro Gamer issue with article about Making of Monkey Island, check refs for proof. Unfortunately, there's not much info on actual development like in Sam & Max or DOT, rather graphical and technical info. Good luck in further editing! Electroguv (talk) 14:40, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help me with copyediting? I am quite busy with finding sources for the rest of the article and I would like some help on text. Thank you. Electroguv (talk) 15:52, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Thanks, but I have just uploaded new version of the article. I think that one's slightly better. Electroguv (talk) 16:06, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi once again! I've uploaded another version. Please tell me if text needs some correction. Thank you. Electroguv (talk) 09:51, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Sabre! I've done with Development and now I'm going to write Gameplay section. I can't find a sentence to begin it, may you suggest one? Thanks, Electroguv (talk) 13:13, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm quite busy with finding refs for Gameplay here and I was wondering if you could check the text in development section. Electroguv (talk) 16:28, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help and advices. Where have you been when I, Jimmy and GiB were doing work on the article, by the way? Electroguv (talk) 10:25, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sabre, great work on the Plot - have you ever tried to become a script doctor? :) I'll add refs for key statements, but I first would like to know your opinion on the article. Do you think it's worth nominating for GA status? Electroguv (talk)

Please, help

Hello,

I saw that you did a great job with The Secret of Monkey Island article, and I was wondering if you could help improve the Plot section in Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars. Best wishes — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.111.221.60 (talk) 20:13, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for adminstrator assistance

How are you? It has been a while, but I'm still around on Wikipedia. I tried creating a new article by copying some of the text as a basis to create an article, calledEureqa, and an admin named User:Fuhghettaboutit deleted it. Perhaps it was a fair point that the text needed to be modified, or removed, but he has refused to restore the article for me to improve. and now, he has deleted a Wikipedia Good Article unilaterally and with no consultation, Mark Twain House. I need some assistance on this issue, could you or another admin help? Thanks. In fact, I really think someone should start going through his contribution history to see if he has a record of deleting other Good Articles on very weak grounds and without any warning or communication of the issues involved, speedy deletion of articles are not for notable articles, let alone Good ones. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:35, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, situation seems to be resolving itself, bee well! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:28, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But could you write a proper D0g article? Reception's there, but hardly anything else. --Niemti (talk) 20:05, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I am currently working on Development and I want to utilize the same section layout you used for Tales of Monkey Island and S&M Save the World. The only trouble is, I don't know what should go into Production subsection. Could you give me some advice? Electroguv (talk) 17:14, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A vote for consensus on Lead in main article

I have introduced a vote for a clearer worded lead according to Wikipedia standards of WP:Readability and WP:MOS Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section on the main article of the Hundred Years War. The vote is located here: Talk:Hundred Years' War. Will you please look at vote as you think best? While your writing is elegant, I do not believe the wording is appropriate for a Wikipedia article where most editors do not have masters in medieval history. Please keep in mind that some of the readers are teenagers. Thank you. Mugginsx (talk) 15:01, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Timelines for Wikipedia articles

Hi, my name is Navino Evans I am the co-founder of a new UK based website called Histropedia. We are working on an ambitious project to make all of the historical content in Wikipedia available on an interactive graphical timeline, which stays synchronised with new additions and changes in Wikipedia automatically and is completely free to use. Editors will be able create timelines extremely quickly and easily by simply searching for each event and clicking on the result.

We're really hoping this site will be of great use to the Wikipedia community, which is why we are seeking feedback from editors and administrators such as yourself at this early stage. Here's an example timeline of the Hundred Years' War article, which was created in under 30 minutes using our current prototype. Hundred Years' War timeline

And here's a timeline of the computer games mentioned in your list of major contributions, which took me about 5 minutes to create. S@bre's contributions timeline

The controls are basically like Google Maps - click and drag to scroll time, zoom with the mouse wheel. You can 'open' an event by double clicking on it. More instructions are available here if needed. Please note that there are currently many events which are not available yet and some incorrect dates. Many of these will appear automatically as we update our algorithm, but full wiki style adding and editing will be available soon.

Any feedback would be very much appreciated! Many thanks, NavinoEvans (talk) 23:23, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi S@bre, I wanted to let you know that I just joined the StarCraft task force of WP:VG and noticed it's largely inactive. I have removed users from the list of participants who haven't edited a Starcraft article in at least 6 months, as the section specifies. Unfortunately, this means you and I are currently the only members of the project.

Are you interested in reviving this taskforce? I recently revived the pro gaming taskforce (which has been renamed to eSports), and my main interest in that taskforce is professional StarCraft, so I would definitely be interested in helping to revive the StarCraft taskforce if you think it's a good idea. Let me know! —Entropy (talk) 23:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Starcraft Topic

While you're not that active, I'm letting you know that since StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm has been released, it grace period has started and if it doesn't reach at least GA status before June 12th, the StarCraft titles topic will be put up for FTRC. Image question

Do you recall whether File:Star_Wars_X-Wing_screenshot.jpg is from the original floppy disk edition, or from the TIE Fighter-engine-powered CD-ROM? --EEMIV (talk) 21:04, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. I honestly can't remember, but looking at the screenshot I would probably go for it being from the DOS CD version. I cannot say for certain though! -- Sabre (talk) 17:38, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the painful color scheme

Now that I look back at it, that kind of actually stung my eyes a bit. Turns out basing the color scheme around the Sam & Max badge really didn't help. --MilitaryNut (talk) 23:33, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, I do colors based on the most common features on art design in games for example. For example, I wouldn't just edit the navigation box for the Spiderman series with a seizure-inducing light pink and light green, I would examine the most recurring color in the franchise. But yet again, for some, I'll have to see if a majority approves of the color choice. --MilitaryNut (talk) 19:33, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

WP:FOUR RFC

There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Please look at the second one, which I think is much better.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 07:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
