Tapestry new opera works is a Canadian opera company, located in Toronto, Ontario in the Distillery Historic District[1]. The company was founded in 1979 by artistic director Wayne Strongman, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009[2]. The resident director is Tom Diamond, a Canadian opera director who also works for the Canadian Opera Company and was a judge/host on the Bravo! Television program Bathroom Divas[3].
History
Tapestry New Opera works was founded in 1979 as a madrigal ensemble The Tapestry Singers[4]. In 1986 it renamed Tapestry Music Singers to reflect changes in the company's direction[4]. The company was re-branded as Tapestry New Opera Works in 1999 to reflect it's dedication to the creation of contemporary opera[4].
